The Scottish Secure Parking Group (SSPG) is seeking views on secure HGV parking across the UK, but particularly in Scotland. It has created a short survey and hopes to hear from a wide audience, ranging from members of the public, industry including HGV companies and other interested parties e.g. local authority, government representatives, councillors etc. It wants to hear about incidents of crime directly or indirectly attributable to off-site, unsecure parking and its impact on business and communities.

The SSPG membership includes the Road Haulage Association, Freight Transport Association, Police Scotland, Scottish Business Resilience Centre, British International Freight Association and Transport Scotland. It is gathering evidence on whether the current lack of secure parking is impacting on the haulage and logistics industries as well as having a detrimental effect on local communities, and what needs to be done to improve the situation.

The anonymous survey is open from Monday 23 April until Friday 25 May and will take about 10 minutes to complete.

“The hope is that as many people as possible will take a few minutes to complete this survey. It is the first time, on a national basis, that the public, elected representatives and those involved in haulage and logistics will be able to provide an accurate snapshot of the situation as it exists at the moment.

The survey is not the end of the story. It is intended that the information will be used to inform further debate, discussion and ultimately action, to alleviate the current situation.”
